GIFT Nifty’s expansion since its full-scale launch in July 2023 has taken the international platform to another trading milestone, with turnover, volume and open interest all hitting fresh highs on September 25.The platform’s cumulative turnover reached $3.52 trillion as of September 25, 2026, while more than 76.19 million contracts had been traded since the start of full-scale operations, NSE International Exchange (NSE IX) said in a press release.The latest session added another record to that growth. GIFT Nifty’s turnover for the day stood at $23.67 billion, its highest-ever single-day figure, with 5,12,023 contracts changing hands.The platform also ended the session with its highest-ever open interest at $21.87 billion, equivalent to around Rs 2.10 lakh crore. The corresponding number of contracts stood at 4,71,287.Both figures moved past their previous records. The earlier single-day turnover high was $23.48 billion on February 20, 2026, while the previous open interest record of $21.56 billion was set on June 25, 2026.NSE IX described the latest milestones as a “new era for Gift Nifty”. It said trading turnover has been “growing exponentially” since the platform began full-scale operations on July 3, 2023.GIFT Nifty’s record session came just a day after another major development involving the National Stock Exchange of India. NSE was listed on the BSE on September 24, with its shares making their debut at Rs 1,800 against an issue price of Rs 1,785. The listing price represented a 0.84 per cent premium.NSE is one of India’s leading stock exchanges and provides trading across multiple asset classes. Its unique investor base crossed 11 crore in January 2025. The exchange also processed more than 2,000 crore orders in a single day on July 23, 2024, and around 29 crore trades on June 5, 2024. Both were described as the highest in the world.The international platform behind GIFT Nifty is NSE IX, which was established at GIFT City in 2017 as a multi-asset international exchange. Its offerings cover Indian single-stock and index derivatives, currency derivatives, depository receipts and global stocks.NSE IX also operates primary-market products covering equity shares, REITs, InvITs and debt securities.The exchange said GIFT Nifty and NSE IX have received regulatory exemptions that allow US customers to participate in derivative contracts listed on NSE IX. These exemptions support the platform’s international participation.
